Luncheon for Seniors

The Annual Seniors Luncheon for 2011 was a resounding success! We had a total of 36 participants and everyone seemed to be in a Holiday Spirit. We had lots of food, fellowship and music. The Flatbroke Band graced us with their presence again this year with bluegrass and Christmas music. It was a special day and we honored 2 longtime park employees who are retiring. Earl Conatser and Betty Henley were presented with gift certificates in appreciation of their many special services for the Friends of Edgar Evins State Park. Billy Harris was presented with a Lifetime Membership for his many years of furnishing unique and attractive walking sticks for our fund raising efforts. The Friends are also honoring Kaye Tuggle as the Friend of the Year for 2011. Kaye has been a major supporter of our group and has provided many services and contributions to our efforts. She is the manager of the Edgar Evins Marina.

The traditional 12 Days of Christmas performed by our guests was another comical and productive venture. We had an inventive and adventurous group to choose from again this year.

Many Thanks to everyone that helped provide another wonderful day to kick off the Christmas Season!

What a wonderful day!! We had a lot of food and lots of wonderful fellowship...We had a total of 40 participants in our Annual Seniors Luncheon and I believe everyone had a good time. Carl Halfacre and the band Flatbroke  Kenny Daniel, Manager at Cedars of Lebanon, Wayne Bomar, Manager at Bledsoe Creek and Lester Baldwin, entertained with blue grass and Christmas music. We had some guests from the Central Office...Nancy Schelin and Bob Harriman from the Community Volunteer Service Department were there. Steve Pardue, Regional Supervisor for the Park Rangers was also able to be there. Special guests from the Edgar Evins Marina...Kaye Tuggle, Lisa Dyer and Harold Murphey were there also. Of course we had to do the special 12 Days of Christmas musical performance...Much to the amusement of everyone present...

We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful group of Seniors to share this very special day with us. It gets me in the Holiday Spirit every year. I hope we can continue this annual event for many years to come...

Each Holiday Season we combine our efforts with the Park staff and invite a group of seniors to the Park for an outing. This includes a luncheon supplied by the Friends and Park Staff. We also provide entertainment supplied by various groups and individuals. It has been a very popular event and gives us a chance to return something to our senior citizens for their contributions in the past.

It makes the day worthwhile to see the smiles and hear the comments of those seniors in attendance. It is also a "feel good" opportunity for those of us who participate in the event.

This year...2009...we had a full house and we had an abundance of food and fellowship. Everyone enjoyed ham, turkey, beef stroganoff, vegetables and a good assortment of desserts. We sang Christmas carols and had a good visit. It just gets the Christmas Season off to a wonderful start when we can share it with our seniors.

A huge "Thank You" to everyone who participated and prepared the delicious food!
