Waterfall Tour

Another highly successful Waterfall Tour! The weather was perfect and the waterfalls were spectacular...Ranger Dava Lundquist presented a very informative and entertaining narrative about Rock Island State Park and the history of the waterfalls there. Dava had done her homework and made the presentation very interesting. We drove through a very scenic and beautiful landscape to get to Lost Creek Falls and saw a bunch of emerging wildflowers at the falls. Trillium, toothwort and rue anemone were blooming with promise of another beautiful spring. The Annual Waterfall Tours were the first events sponsored by the Friends Group at the park and have proved to be a very popular event each year. A special "Thank You" to Scotty and Peggy Richardson for  doing the registration and getting us off quickly and efficiently...Also a special thanks to our drivers...Carl, Jane, Nancy, Clint and Randy did a wonderful job in getting us to and from safely...

Make your plans now to join us next year for this very enjoyable outing!

The date for the Waterfall Tour is March 19, 2011. We will be going to Rock Island State Park to view the Great falls and Twin Falls. A park ranger will give us a history of the park and present the special features of the park. From RISP we'll go to the Lost Creek Falls...an obscure but very attractive site. We'll then go to Cookeville for lunch at the Golden Corral and then go to the City Lake Falls.

Reservations are now being accepted...Call (931) 858-2114 or (800) 250-8619. The cost is $10.00 per person and lunch is on your own. We always sell out early for this event, so you need to get your reservations in right away. We will leave the Visitors Center at Edgar Evins State Park at 8:00 am and return at approximately 3:00 pm.

The 2010 Waterfall Tour was a huge success! We had a sold out attendance and the weather was perfect...The 3 falls we visited were flowing with a lot of water and all were very scenic. We had a lot of "first timers" on the tour and it seemed that everyone was very satisfied with the day. We started at Roaring River Falls then went to Waterloo Falls. After a hearty lunch at the Golden Corral, we finished the day with a trip to Cummins Falls. Lots of exercise and good fellowship was truly a bonus for the outing. There were some folks that expressed an interest in becoming members of the Friends of Edgar Evins as well. If that happens then the day certainly was well spent!

I am just sorry we couldn't accommodate everyone that wanted to go. With limited transportation and limited parking facilities, we had as many as we could safely handle. Just remember to get your reservations in early next time if you want to go...A big THANK YOU to those who worked to make the day a memorable one...

Each March before the leaves are fully out, we sponsor a tour of some of the beautiful waterfalls in Middle Tennessee. There are a number of them and we try to visit different places every year. Some of the falls we have visited  in the past  include Fall Creek Falls, Caney Creek Falls, Piney Falls, Burgess Falls,  Cummins Falls, Ozone Falls, Upper and Lower Piney Falls, Great Falls, and Twin Falls. We travel in state vans and charge $10.00 to cover our expenses and raise money for Park projects.
